Woodlake Triathlon Terminated

One of the great local athletic events, the Woodlake Triathlon, is at an end. It is sad to see an event that did so much to promote a community has been ended because of that very same community. We received this notification yesterday…

IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS THAT WE HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT THE WOODLAKE TRIATHLON HAS BEEN TERMINATED. WE, THE COMMITTEE, HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY WOODLAKE MANAGEMENT THAT THEY NO LONGER FEEL IT SUCH AN EVENT IS CONDUCIVE TO OUR COMMUNITY. HOW CRAZY IS THAT WHEN ONCE A YEAR ATHLETES FROM ALL OVER WERE WELCOMED INTO OUR COMMUNITY SO THAT WE COULD SHOW OFF WHAT A BEAUTIFUL ENVIRONMENT WE LIVE IN EVERY DAY.WE HAVE FOUGHT HARD TO GIVE THEM ALL THE INFORMATION THEY NEEDED TO SHOW THE BENEFITS BUT TO NO AVAIL. WE MUST TELL YOU THAT SOME OF THEIR DECISION IS PERSONAL SO NO MATTER HOW WE EXPLAINED IT, THEY WERE GOING TO CANCEL THE EVENT.

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED, SOME HAVING DONE ALL 11 YEARS. WE CERTAINLY HAVE LEARNED ALOT AND TRIED TO MAKE THE EVENT BETTER EACH YEAR. WE HOPE YOU ENJOYED THEM AND

Turkey Trot

The Annual Turkey Trot (one of our favorite events) is Saturday, November 19th. With great new courses 5k, 10k and Half Marathon courses, the 31st Annual Turkey Trot should be a really fun event. The Reindeer Fun Run crew will be there too at the Sandhills Race Series tent signing people up for the 5th Annual Reindeer Fun Run. Hope to see you at both races!

Congratulations again to all the runners, and the team that planned the 1 in 8k in Pinehurst, NC. John Eastman and Pinehurst Radiology put on a seasoned first year event. Pinehurst Radiology is committed to fitness, and has again agreed to be a major sponsor of this year’s Reindeer Fun Run – and we really appreciate it!

For those that were wondering, the name and length of the run comes from the fact that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer. Here’s to hoping for longer runs in the future…

Autumnfest

This fall, the Sandhills Race Series has 3 featured races and 5 bonus events. After 30 years, Autumnfest will offer it’s first certified course and computerized timing on October 1, and be the first of the featured events. The Reindeer Fun Run will be the finale to the Sandhills Race Series season on December 3, and will be at the Sandhills Race series tent during Autumnfest taking registrations! So if you come out to run the Autumnfest Southern Pines course, please stop by the tent!

Carolina Animal Rescue 5K & 10K

We’ve got a gorgeous, USATF certified course, a new chip timing company, and we’ll be kicking off the Sandhills Race Series Fall series. We’ve got live music, great food, fabulous local vendors, a bounce house and other fun for the kids. We’ve got an on-site microchip clinic available if you’d like to ensure that a lost pup makes it home safely. We even have a coffee truck for that pre-race pick me up. Pinehurst Live After Five

One of our favorite bands is playing at Pinehurst Live After 5 on Thursday, July 21st. And the charity for this weeks event is our favorite one, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sandhills. Check out a great band, at a great event, all for a great cause!

Pinehurst Live after 5 is in the Village with live music from 5-9 pm on the third Thursday of the month. Proceeds from the events go to different organizations each week. Food and beverages will be available for purchase on site.

Firecracker Fun Run

If you’re looking for a little exercise over the 4th of July weekend, the Pinecrest Football Team will be putting on a 5k starting from John Williams Athletic Complex on July 2nd. Registration can be made at active.com. Race day registration starts at 7am at the Pinecrest Football Field House and the 5k begins at 8. Have fun – and HAPPY 4th OF JULY EVERYONE!

The next Sandhills Race Series event is the FirstHealth Turkey Trot. Autumnfest

In it’s 32nd year, Autumnfest experienced its highest participation ever for the 5k and fun run. Thanks in large part to the new Sandhills Race Series which was stared by Reindeer Fun Run Race Coordinator, Sallie Beth Johnson, Co-founder David Petsolt, Race Directors from Miles for Mira, Turkey Trot & Autumnfest, and the Sandhills Striders. The 250 participants for the event eclipses the previous record of 140. Congratulations Autumnfest on a great event!
