A thank you from the Reindeer Fun Run Committee…

As the year draws to a close, we at the Reindeer Fun Run want to take the time to thank you for everything you did to make the 7th annual Reindeer Fun Run possible. Runners from all over the Sandhills and beyond say the RFR is their favorite race and comment on how organized and fun the event is, and each year the number of registrants grows. All of this would not be possible if it weren’t for you, our volunteers, who gave time, energy, and effort every step of the way. Thank you for being there from start to finish and way after the last runners finished their cool downs, you all are fantastic! Special thanks goes out to the following:

Jae Kim and the Police, Fire, and Public Works Department for the Town of Aberdeen – this crew helped get the town of Aberdeen ready for the Reindeer Fun Run and helped to ensure runner safety

Robert, Matt, and Michael of the US Air Force – they provided heavy lifting and manual labor

We are thrilled that the Sandhills Race Series, born at a Reindeer Fun Run meeting in 2010, has grown to be such a success. This year 14 races (maybe more) will be a part of the Spring & Fall series, and we are looking to expand into an Adventure Series too! This is just a “SHOUT OUT” to all of those who help to make the SRS so much fun to be a part of! Sandhills Race Series | Trident Marketing

Trident Marketing has been the primary sponsor of the Reindeer Fun Run since day 1. Actually, from about day -364 when we first got the idea. They have now expanded their commitment to the community and running by becoming a co-presenter of the Sandhills Race Series along with FirstHealth Centers for Health and Fitness. Props to Trident!

Turkey Trot

The Annual Turkey Trot (one of our favorite events) is Saturday, November 19th. With great new courses 5k, 10k and Half Marathon courses, the 31st Annual Turkey Trot should be a really fun event. The Reindeer Fun Run crew will be there too at the Sandhills Race Series tent signing people up for the 5th Annual Reindeer Fun Run. Hope to see you at both races!

Pinehurst 1 in 8k Run for the Cure

This first year event to raise money for breast cancer research is being run by Pinehurst Radiology, a sponsor of the 2010 and 2011 Reindeer Fun Run! Check it out!

What: 8k Race through the scenic Village of Pinehurst and 1k Fun Run / Walk

When: September 10, 2011

Why: Because 1 out of every 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer at sometime in their life.

Who: Everyone! Run or walk to support the fight against Breast Cancer, Bring your friends, your family, your kids, your neighbors – even your dog!

Carolina Animal Rescue 5K & 10K

Run for their Lives 5K and 10K take place next Saturday, August 27. We’ve got a gorgeous, USATF certified course, a new chip timing company, and we’ll be kicking off the Sandhills Race Series Fall series. We’ve got live music, great food, fabulous local vendors, a bounce house and other fun for the kids. We’ve got an on-site microchip clinic available if you’d like to ensure that a lost pup makes it home safely. We even have a coffee truck for that pre-race pick me up. SRS Spring Series

First the inaugural fall series, and now the spring series… every single race in the Sandhills Race Series has broken their attendance record! In the fall it was AutumnFest (Southern Pines), Miles for Mira (Southern Pines), Turkey Trot (Pinehurst) and the Reindeer Fun Run (Southern Pines, now Aberdeen) that all set records. This spring, ShamRock ‘N Roll (Whispering Pines), Run for the Ribbons (Raeford), Disabled American Veterans 5k (Carthage) and MANNA! In Motion (Southern Pines) did the same! Wow, wow wow!

The Spring Series will be announced at the Champions’ Award Ceremony at Mellow Mushroom on June 25th, and will expand the SRS even more with bigger, better events raising even more money for their causes.

So far 3,341 people have participated in the Sandhills Race Series, running nearly 25,000 kilometers. Not a bad first year. Congratulations to all the runners & walkers who participated in the Sandhills Race Series this year.

Southern Pines’ Biggest Race

Early registrations have been flying in – and we’re excited! This will be the biggest Reindeer Fun Run yet, with every level of runner and walker well represented. The finale to the Sandhills Race Series first season and the new 10k is bringing out the serious runners, and the costumes, fantastic live music, food, fun and games are there for folks just looking for a good time and some exercise. The Chick-fil-A Egg Nog Jog and Kids Zone is also adding some serious fun to the event, with Pony Rides, Santa, obstacle course, along with the crowd favorite 1/2 mile kid’s run making it a great day for the whole family. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone there – and remember, 100% of proceeds go to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sandhills!

Sandhills Race Series

The Reindeer Fun Run is excited to be part of the Sandhills Race Series. The fall series will also include Autumnfest (5k), Miles for Mira (5k), and the Turkey Trot (5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon).

Goals of the Sandhills Race Series include:

Increase participation in local races and running-related activities
Coordinate an annual schedule of local races
Offer support and resources for the development and implementation of events that meet safety and professional race management standards
Create a pool of trained, experienced volunteers for local races
