2017 Course Improvements

David — Sat, 16 Sep 2017 15:00:05 +0000

Every year we review the Reindeer Fun Run and ask ourselves, “How can we improve?” We think we have a pretty good one this year.

Since the event is getting so big, we need more space at both the start and finish lines for crowds to set up, watch and cheer. To accomplish this, we’ve made a small course change that adds a cool run along the tracks on Fayetteville and Blue streets. This in turn allows us to push the starting line forward to the corner of Main Street, and pull the Finish line back just a bit to Exchange.

We will now have a much more room, be further from any railroad tracks, and incorporate more of Aberdeen’s beautiful Main Street. In addition, we are moving the water stations to reduce congestion (especially where 12k & 5k combine). These are small, but impactful changes–we hope you like them!

We also have a cool idea for the Egg Nog Jog, but we’re not quite ready to share that one yet :-)

Here are the new USATF certifications for those interested… We will update our Google Maps on the site shortly.

Chip timing

Always trying to be on the cutting edge, the Reindeer Fun Run will use Chronotrack timing this year. Chronotrack is a disposable “chip” that attaches to your shoe and will be adhered to the race bib of those signing up to be timed. This will save time the morning of the race since you will already have your timing device. You can watch a video about Chronotrack here to learn more.

10k in ’10

David — Fri, 30 Jul 2010 03:49:44 +0000

The past three Reindeer Fun Runs have been more sucessful than we could have hoped. But one request we keep getting is the addition of a 10k event. Well, we’re giving it a try! We will be coordinating with the town of Southern Pines, the USATF, the Southern Pines Police and Parks & Recreation to make it all happen. We will keep you posted!

Online registration will begin the first week of August, with the launch of an improved website. Keep checking back for more info, and make sure to become a fan of the Reindeer Fun Run on Facebook.
