All Aboard... Reindeer Fun Run Hops on the Aberdeen Train!
WOW – what an exciting time for the Reindeer Fun Run! As many of you know, we were not able to keep our date/time/location in Southern Pines for the 5th Annual Reindeer Fun Run. But we couldn’t be happier with where the 2011 event will be. Here are just a few of the things we are really excited about…
Route
Both the 5k & 10k are fantastic with rolling hills and beautiful views. Our favorite is the long downhill finish into downtown Aberdeen.
Safety
The Aberdeen Police and Fire Departments have volunteered to station themselves at nearly every single street crossing. We’re hoping we can get them all to wear antlers!
Town Participation
The Town of Aberdeen is a full sponsor and actively participating in all aspects of the event, from parking and packet pick-up, to the After Party.
Tailgating/Sponsor Tents
We’re working on it!
After Party
With the ability to have streets closed, the Kids Zone can be even bigger. And for the grown-ups, look forward to a new Adult Zone too!
Weather
If it is cold outside before or after the race, look for the Aberdeen Merchants Guild hospitality tents to help keep you warm.
Surprises
We have a couple cooked up all ready!
Excitement
The vibe in Aberdeen is contagious! We are so excited to share the fun with you!
10k Route has been Mapped
Information and a map of the 2010 Reindeer Fun Run 10k is now online. The new 10k course combines the 5k route with a gallup through Southern Pines House Country, finishing at the downtown Southern Pines park along with 5k runners.
10k in ’10
The past three Reindeer Fun Runs have been more sucessful than we could have hoped. But one request we keep getting is the addition of a 10k event. Well, we’re giving it a try! We will be coordinating with the town of Southern Pines, the USATF, the Southern Pines Police and Parks & Recreation to make it all happen. We will keep you posted!
Online registration will begin the first week of August, with the launch of an improved website. Keep checking back for more info, and make sure to become a fan of the Reindeer Fun Run on Facebook.
5k Route Record @ 16:25
Our 2009 5k record setter Sean Dunlap has a compelling and wonderfully written blog post about the race – We encourage all runners to read it.
