Course Records

We knew the runners were FAST yesterday, so we did a little checking... Trevor Touchton set a course & Reindeer Fun Run record for the 5k with a time of 16:28.20--that's a 5:18/mile pace! Daniel Taylor tied a course & Reindeer Fun Run record for the 12ks of Christmas with a time of 40:21:00. That's the exact time of the 2018 winner, Matt Cheney. At 5:25/mile pac...

2017 Race Day Photos

Run Sign Up has a feature where it will search photos for a bib number (note, name won't yet work since we didn't get bib numbers form RunSignUp, just bib). We've not used it before, but we just uploaded a bunch of photos, so give it a try...

Sorry, you must enable javascript to view this content from https://runsignup.com/...

Training tips from FirstHealth Fitness Centers

1) Your Daily Training Diet You’ve committed to running a 5K or 12K, and you’ve got your training plan in place. But how much attention have you given to your nutrition? Can you run a race on Cheetos or french fries? Probably. But you won’t perform as well, and you definitely won’t feel as good as if you had followed a good training diet. If you need specific help getting started, visit our nut...

2017 Course Improvements

Every year we review the Reindeer Fun Run and ask ourselves, "How can we improve?" We think we have a pretty good one this year. Since the event is getting so big, we need more space at both the start and finish lines for crowds to set up, watch and cheer. To accomplish this, we've made a small course change that adds a cool run along the tracks on Fayetteville and Blue streets. This in turn al...

Charlotte’s Reindeer Fun Run Story

My granddaughter, Brooke Simmons, since 2 yrs old, loves to run. She has done the Raindeer Run previously and had remembered her time so had a goal for this years run. She brought along a school girl friend. Her mother, Kirsten, needed to stay with Grandma Charlotte as she had a new hip and had to walk. Kirsten told the girls to stay together. As the girls were near the end, Brooke did run ahead. ...

Carly’s Reindeer Fun Run Story

Ava's First 5K I started running approximately 22 years ago. My husband knew that when he married me, running would be a part of the deal. One day we had kids, and they had to become runners in a sense, because they had to ride along on my training runs. The running stroller was filled with a baby and then the running stroller had to turn into a double stroller for my twins.... bu...

Tammy’s Reindeer Fun Run Story

I have a story to share. This past Saturday, the Aberdeen Reindeer fun run was my first official 5K run with my prosthetic hip. I am 54 years old and previously was an avid runner before my hip joint was destroyed by degenerative joint disease (arthritis). My time this year, of course, was way off of my previous PR’s, but I was happier to complete this 5K than any previous. My fa...

5k Moved to 9:30

Every year there is one issue we have for certain runners... When 12kers merge with the 5k course, many of them run into a wall of walkers. We try to make sure everyone is aware, we mark the route with signs, and remind everyone at the starting line. But, sometimes people are just having too much fun and forget that quick runners may be coming up behind them. So, this year we've decided to less...

Our Journey’s Reindeer Fun Run Story

The idea for Our Journey started in October when the Reindeer Fun Run posted on Facebook that they would have teams for this year’s race. We wanted to set up a team and enjoy the run together, but also to run for a reason. And so begins the story of Our Journey, a fundraising group started in honor of Owen Joseph Eilert. Owen was born to our dear friends in the spring of 2015. An otherwise heal...

Julian’s Reindeer Fun Run Story

I beat breast cancer after having surgery in 2014 when I was 37 years old. This past October I decided to train to run. I had never ran before and could not even run for one minute without total exhaustion. After training for 6 weeks, a friend told me about the Reindeer Run. I registered and it was my first run ever. At 38 years old I was really running! The Reindeer Run gave me the confiden...

Veronica’s Reindeer Fun Run Story

mom and me reindeer run
Reindeer Fun Run 2007: A Perfect Day with My Mother The Reindeer Fun Run is a very special race for me. Not only is it the most fun race ever, but it commemorates the last normal day I had with my mother before she passed away on December 22, 2007. It was the first year of the run, held in Southern Pines. I knew mom didn't have much time left. The doctor gave her six weeks to live. We had ma...
